VIII. MATTERS FROM BOARD MEMBERS
A. Board Member Smith Leave of Absence Request
Board member Smith requested a leave of absence from the PRAB for one
year due to being called to U.S. Army active duty service.
Geden said that City Council was requesting the following recommendation from
the PRAB relative to Smith's request for a leave of absence:
1. Should the leave be granted?
2. How to proceed with the vacancy?
The recommendation would be placed on City Council's October 7, 2009 meeting
agenda for discussion.
Smith then asked that his request for a leave of absence be changed to a request
for resignation and that he be considered for re-appointment at the conclusion of
his active duty tour of service should the PRAB have a position available.
Hartogh made the following motion: The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
(PRAB) confirms its support of participation on city boards and commissions by
members of the military and military reserve. In light of Alan Smith's stated
intent to resign from the PRAB, effective September 29, 2008, the PRAB asks
City Council to appoint a new PRAB member to finish Alan Smith's term as the
practicable. We recommend Alan Smith for future appointment to the PRAB upon
his return from duty, should he seek appointment.
Julian seconded the motion.
