The Open Space and Mountain Parks Board of Trustees proposal to sell the Hodges
Property is very short-sighted. Properties like this are vital for the continued vitality of
Boulder County’s agricultural ecosystem. Food produced locally is typically less
expensive than that available in chain food stores. Moreover, locally produced food is
far more nutritional then food produced and trucked in from thousands of miles away.
The Hodges Property also provides on-farm housing. This is very significant, since it
allows farm workers to live on site at reasonable cost. Without such housing, farm
workers would need to commute from afar and further the existing traffic and air
pollution crisis.
I am opposed to any sale of the Hodges Property and urge you to cancel this
proposal. The use of open space for agricultural purposes is more beneficial than
any other usage.
