Open Space Board of Trustees:
Even as a mountain biker since 1981, I strongly favor hikers only on the trails between
Shanahan Ridge and South Mesa Trailhead. With increased Boulder area population, our
local trails are becoming congested with hikers. Adding the mountain bikes to the trail
system crowds the pathways, widens trails, increases erosion, and lessens the value of a
restorative walk in the Open Space.
Although Forest Service roads are less accessible, they offer miles of scenic and
challenging riding. Additionally, on-street bicycle lanes are useful for in town transportation.
