Dear City Council, OSBT members, and all the City Staff who have worked on flood mitigation for South
Boulder Creek:
As you embark on the public hearing for disposal of 2.2 acres of open space for use by the Utilities
department for flood mitigation, my wife and I write to say Thank You for all the work you’ve put in to this
project to get us all to where we are today. Disposing of this acreage is what will allow the city to protect
the lives of those of us in harm’s way from South Boulder Creek. It will protect families like ours.
We have lived in the Frasier Meadows neighborhood since shortly after we got married. We have always
been happy to do our part to advocate for protecting the lives of our neighbors from the devastating
impacts of flooding from South Boulder Creek. As the years have gone by, and flood mitigation has
sometimes felt elusive, the situation sometimes seemed a bit hopeless. But today, we feel hopeful.
We are parents to 3-year old Max and just 2 months ago, we welcomed our newborn daughter Estelle.
We do have more trepidation than we used to have about the flooding — because ours is a street where
flash flooding occurred in 2013; that’s the sort of rapid moving water where you are unable to keep hold of
a child’s hand when the waters overtake you. We love our neighbors and our community, and we hope
that our street is soon one where we can sleep without worries for our neighbors and now for our own
children in the event of downpours.
We are incredibly thankful that this council and this board are taking action to protect us and our
community.
With gratitude,
Nick & Soleine
