CU South considerationFrom:bethreece@me.com To:OSBT-Web Subject:CU South consideration Date:Wednesday, February 28, 2024 6:26:18 PM External Sender Notice This email was sent by an external sender. Dear Open Space Board of Trustees, Thank you for protecting Boulder's open spaces. Our city is unique because of this, and we are all fortunate to live here. I am writing to express my concern about CU South's proposed development on this flood plain and special piece of land. The current plan for flood mitigation has multiple flaws and has not been properly assessed in regards to environmental impacts. Boulder City Council also rejected wetlands-based 500-year flood protection in favor of weak 100-year flood protection that allows CU to build in a flood plain that is ecologically sensitive. Despite numerous requests from the community, the City of Boulder and the University of Colorado Boulder have refused to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the proposed project site. Public safety is actually threatened by the CU South proposal, which reduces flood protection to inadequate levels for downstream communities. You will save renters and homeowners likely $300 to $500 per year if the City rejects the request to dispose of Open Space, and you will most importantly protect the endangered plants and animals that make their home in the area by rejecting the City's request to dispose of Open Space. Despite incredible pressure from City Council and CU Boulder, I request that you reject the City of Boulder's request to remove protection from critical wetlands habitat in the South Boulder Creek floodplain in order to dispose of and remove Open Space. For hundreds of years to come, your decision will affect both the environment and the safety of downstream communities. Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my request.
