CU South concernsFrom:kathleen adair To:OSBT; SouthBoulderSongbirdOpenSpace@gmail.com Subject:CU South concerns Date:Thursday, February 22, 2024 9:49:40 AM External Sender Notice This email was sent by an external sender. Hon. Open Space Board of Trustees, I've lived in Boulder since 1983 and deeply appreciate and value Boulder Open Space. Over the years it's been concerning to see the power CU seems to have in this town, and now especially in regards to the CU South property. I ask that you reject the City of Boulder request to dispose of and remove Open Space protection from critical wetlands habitat in the South Boulder Creek floodplain. With the weather shifting and climate change many Boulder citizens are aware and concerned that the 100 year flood protection is not the best vision for future safety of downstream communities. Of course this plan allows more buildable space for CU's desired large campus on this site, but is know that CU has other land available for development if they think they must expand. Affordable living/housing in Boulder is already considered a crisis. If this plan goes through it appears that the cost, which is largely unknown at this time, will be passed to residents through higher water bills. This land is critical for the natural world and is home to many birds, animals and plants. Why has the City of Boulder and the University of Colorado Boulder refused to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the proposed project area. This is essential for the environment before this project moves forward. Please do not remove the Open Space protection for these wetlands. Thank you sincerely for your consideration and dedication to Boulder's precious lands. Respectfully, Kathleen Adair
