Re_ Question about the netting at NBRC 4_RedactedFrom: To:Schuttenberg, Scott Cc:Rhodes, Alison; Briggs, Tina; Bulger, Connor; Beary, Bryan Subject:Re: Question about the netting at NBRC Date:Monday, October 30, 2023 6:05:46 PM Hi Scott, Thanks for the quick response to my query. I appreciate it. Other places that have windscreens do roll up their screens and it hasn’t resulted in any wear and tear. Not only is the shade from the screens resulting in shade but in a few inches of ice (from our first storm). We can’t shovel it because (as requested by P&R) we only use plastic- edged shovels and we take great care not to damage the courts. I helped shovel today and I’m going to play at 10:30 tomorrow, so how about if I report back on the shape of the ice? Maybe it will have melted despite being in the shade today . That would be the best scenario. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and let you know. Sound good? The screens we purchased are very durable and are intended to stay up all year. They were professionally installed, and the metal zip ties help reduce damage from the wind and ensure the nets stay in place. Taking the screens down would require storage for the winter and having them professionally installed again next spring, so we've decided to leave them up this winter to see how they fair. While I appreciate your suggestion of swapping the metal ties with carabiners, I don't believe rolling up nets and providing carabiners is a good option at this time. I worry that rolling up the nets would be difficult and result in damage to the wind screens. I know shade results in slower melting times, but our hope is that once snow has been cleared there will be minimal impact on play. If we determine that the shade created by the wind screens is impacting play, I would be happy to have a follow up discussion to brainstorm future options. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you, Scott Scott Schuttenberg Deputy Director (pronouns: He/Him/His) What's This? Hi Ali, Happy Monday! I’ve got a question for you regarding the netting on the Pickleball courts. Would it be possible to remove the metal zip ties? It would be really great to put on carabiners so that on snowy days we could roll them up and let the sun melt the ice and snow. If you look at the courts right now, you’ll see that there is solid ice where the courts are in the shade due to the netting. Everything else was melted by noon today. Otherwise I’m not sure if we’ll be able to use two of the four remaining courts. Regarding cost, I’d be happy to check with Cliff and Boco Pickleball to see if they could pay for the carabiners if that is an issue. Thank you so much, Allie, I appreciate all your help,
