HomeMy WebLinkAboutOwner Letter 1015 JuniperTo: Boulder Landmarks Board From: Jill and Brian Lillie Subject: 1015 Juniper Avenue, Boulder, CO We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to the Landmarks Board and to share some thoughts about our future life at 1015 Juniper Avenue. Our names are Brian and Jill Lillie, and we are residents of Lafayette, Colorado. We have been married for 35 years, and we have four adult children: Nick (29), Natalie (27), Jake (24), and Josh (21). We also have two Havanese dogs, Buddy and Trooper. Nick and Marissa (his wife) live and work here in Boulder (166 Meadowlook); Natalie is a pediatric neurogenetic counselor at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin and loves Boulder and wants to move here when her assignment is finished; Jake and his fiance’ Kristen are in grad school in Seattle and are debating living there or here when they finish; and Josh attends Lincoln Tech in Denver where he is studying to be in welding and fabrication – he plans to stay here in Boulder after graduating. Our intention is to make 1015 Juniper Avenue the Lillie Family home. In our lives, Jill and I have prioritized raising our family and serving others. For instance, I served for 13 years in the US Air Force (~9 active duty, 4 reserves) and coached youth sports for 17 years. Jill spent 20 years as a teacher and in volunteer roles such as PTA president in the local school system. We care deeply about the community and plan to continue to volunteer in Boulder as we deepen our roots here. We are committed to giving where we can and have a small family foundation where we give annually to support education, mental health, and the environment. It is important to us that you know our character and our intentions. Once we move into our new home at 1015 Juniper, we intend to be positive, contributing citizens to the Boulder community. We also want to respect the look and feel of Juniper and create a tasteful, Boulder-style home that will allow our family to happily live there and create memories together. We look forward to hosting our neighbors and being a welcoming home on our street. Our immediate neighbors and the neighborhood in general have already been very welcoming of us and our plans. In keeping with the Juniper neighborhood and Boulder in general, we intend to use similar lines of gabled roofs, corbels, and native wood and stone materials that will be beautiful to our neighbors and not overwhelming to the lot and street. We will follow the guidelines for design and build as set forth by Boulder County and will be thoughtful builders. Our intention is to build this home in the spirit of Boulder, present and past. Finally, in the spirit of cooperation and “win-win,” Jill and I would be happy to install a tasteful plaque somewhere on the front of the property (near the street) with a historic notation about the property. We would also consider having a photographer come out and take photos for the library archives or for an online exhibit that they could build and maintain for the public. Lastly, we can look at reusing some materials from the existing home in the new structure (e.g., the exposed rafter tails). Our intention is to honor the past with these suggestions. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share our intentions with you and we hope this letter gives you a glimpse into who we are as a family and citizens of this great community. Sincerely, Brian and Jill Lillie
