Public comment_1044 Maxwell meeting_BarthFrom:Kathryn Barth To:Brandt, Clare Cc:Vern Seieroe Subject:1044 Maxwell Date:Thursday, April 23, 2020 5:58:30 PM External Sender Dear Clare, Could you please send this on to the Landmarks Board and Staff? Thanks! I have some questions regarding the project at 1044 Maxwell Street that the Landmarks Board will be reviewing this evening. In general, the proposal seems to be on the right track as far as design elements are concerned. However, I agree with the recommendation to lower the height of the roof of the rear addition. A general question relates to the 2013 Flood? How did this house fare during the flood. Was it damaged? Did FEMA do any repairs at the house afterwards? Will there be any flood protection added to the house as part of this project? Were there any subsequent issues with mold etc? Is it in the 100 year Flood Plain? Has there been contact with the Ditch company regarding this proposal? If so, did they have comments? Other questions are related to the site, the ditch that runs through the site, and the impact of the ditch on the existing house, and proposed alterations. Is there an easement with the Ditch Company? What is the dimension from the existing corner of the historic accessory building to the ditch? What will the dimension be from the northwest corner of the propose addition to the ditch? As to the existing garage? How will it be moved up and around to the alley? What is the elevation of the alley? How will someone get from the lower level of the garage to the house? There is a ditch in between. Will the relocated historic garage be used as a garage after it is moved up to the alley level? and some dimensions that would be helpful: on Figure 16: (N) Addition at upper level? (N) Covered porch? Thank you for your efforts in reviewing this proposal… it is a complicated site, and the presence of the Ditch makes everything even more complicated… Sincerely, Kathryn Kathryn Howes Barth, AIA, Preservation Architect
