The following are the action minutes of the February 5, 2020 City of Boulder Landmarks Board meeting.

The roll having been called, Chair F. Sheets declared a quorum at 6:03 p.m. and the following
business was conducted.

On a motion by J.Decker, seconded by A.Daniels,the Landmarks Board approved (3-0,Pelusio
and Jellick absent) the minutes from the January 6, 2020 Landmarks Board meetings.

Ave. as an individual landmark, pursuant to Section 9-11-5 of the Boulder Revised Code 1981
(HIS2019-00306). Owner/Applicant: Don and Alice McDonald.

Staff Presentation
M. Cameron presented the case to the board,recommending that the board approve the application
to designate the property as an individual landmark.
Owner/Applicant Presentation
Don McDonald,2440 Kohler Dr.,spoke in support of landmark designation shared images of the
building under construction.

Motion
On a motion by R.Pelusio, seconded by W.Jellick,the Landmarks Board voted (5-0), to adopt the
staff memorandum dated Feb. 5, 2020, as the findings of the board and approve recommendation to
the City Council that it designate the property at 2440 Kohler Dr. as a local historic landmark, to
be known as the McDonald House, finding that it meets the standards for individual landmark
designation in Sections 9-11-1 and 9-11-2, B.R.C. 1981.
On a second motion by R.Pelusio, seconded by W.Jellick, the Landmarks Board voted(5-0) to
revise the proposed landmark name to the McDonald Residence.

Ave. as an individual landmark, pursuant to Section 9-11-5 of the Boulder Revised Code 1981
(HIS2020-00035 formally HIS20.19-00087). Owner: Rocky Mountain District Lutheran Church/
Applicant: City of Boulder Landmarks Board.

Staff Presentation
J. Hewat presented the case to the board,recommending that the board approve the application to
designate the property as an individual landmark, noting that when the original recommendation
was made staff was under the impression that the owner would not oppose the designation.
Applicant's Presentation
Paul Albers presented the Lutheran Church's case, stating that it was never their intention to
demolish the chapel portion of the property, rather preserve the chapel through the demolition of
the residential portion of the property. Expressed the desires of the church to remain at 1202
Folsom Ave.

Motion
On a motion by R.Pelusio, seconded by A.Daniels,the Landmarks Board voted (5-0), to
recommend to the City Council that it not designate the property at 1202 Folsom St., finding that
while the 1963 Lutheran Student Chapel meets the standards for individual landmark designation
in Sections 9-11-1 and 9-11-2, B.R.C. 1981, the building currently is not threatened by demolition
or alterations that may damage its historic and/or architectural significance.
