AGENDA ITEM I - INTRODUCTION OF BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT
AGENDA ITEM 2 - AGENDA REVIEW - Damas reviewed the agenda and timelines for each item.
AGENDA ITEM 3 - MISSION STATEMENT AND GOALS - Andrews gave an overview of the UHNA Mission Statement,
Dixon gave an overview of the UHA Mission Statement, and McMullen gave an overview of the UHGID Mission Statement.
AGENDA ITEM 4 - REVIEW OF TOP GOALS WHICH RELATE TO THE HILL COMMERCIAL AREA.
Board members identified 8 goals.
• Increase Restaurant and Shopping Options
• Slumlord related problems
• The Root - Rave Club and Impacts
• Get more family attractions
• Equal Treatment between the Downtown Mail and the Hill - Money, Police, Maintenance
• More Positive Publicity
• CU, City Administrators, Hill organizations should work together
• Work with existing businesses toward excellence.
AGENDA ITEM 5 - DOT VOTE ON THE GOALS, IDENTIFY ROLES AND JOINT WORK PLANS ON TOP 3 GOALS.
The Boards identified the top 3 goals
• #1 Slumlord related problems - Some concerns identified are; trash, graffiti, appearance of buildings,
vacant buildings. Some suggestions for a solution were, UHGID would write a letter to the absentee
landlords, representatives from the 3 boards meet with the problem landlords, expand the Good
Neighbor Policy to all businesses and landlords, identify the good landlords and what they're doing
versus the problem landlords, and develop an information sheet with the expectations of landlords.
• #2 Increase Restaurant and Shopping Options - Some suggestions are; encourage landlords to speak
to the Hill Alliance before their buildings become vacant, develop a prospectus- identify people we
want to encourage to establish their business on the Hill , speak to landlords of vacant buildings,
compile a list of types of businesses desired, look at other similar college towns, place an ad in trade
journals.
• #3 The Root at the Hill - Rave Club and Impacts - Some concerns identified were; drugs, fire hazard,
trash, broken agreement with tenant, occupancy. Some suggestions for a solution- Get a delegation to
meet with the District Attorney, speak to the owner of the building, find ways to make it more positive,
talk to reporters about articles they write about the Rave.
AGENDA ITEM 6 - PUBLIC IMPUT - Citizens voiced some ideas to bring more businesses to the Hill.
AGENDA ITEM 7 - NEXT STEPS AND EVALUATION OF MEETING - Distribute notes, meet again in February 2002.
