3 - Citizen Participation, Closure of Front Range and LykinsPage 1 of 1 - Closure of Front Range aad Lykins From: "William VanderMinden" <wvanderminden@hotmail.com> To: <durians@ci.boulder.co.us> Date: 5/10/2002 12:56 AM Subject: Closure of Front Range and Lykins CC: <ssirkin@idcomm.com>, yudyn@warrenmiller.com> Dear Steve, I am writing in support of the Dakota Ridge Residents request to block the extension of Front Range and Lykins from l Oth Street to Broadway. • The recently approved Homeless Shelter is a primary reason why I didn't buy a house on l Oth Street. My daughter said she would not allow my grandchildren to visit me if there was the possibility of "misbehaving homeless people that where rejected by the shelter" roaming through the neighborhood. I bought a house in the Noble Park subdivision instead. I think the Dakota Ridge residents deserve ANY HOMELESS SHELTER MITIGATION that you can extend to them. LISTEN TO THE RESIDENTSI!! They DO NOT WANT PEDESTRIAN or BICYCLE access to that homeless shelter. They don't care if the traffic density is higher on lOth and Dakota Blvd, After the Homeless Shelter and the Bustop Strip Joint are removed, then the Planning Dept could petition to extend those streets IF TRAFFIC WARR ANTED and IF THE RESIDENTS REQiJEST IT AT THAT FUTURE TIME. In the meantime the Planning Dept should be implementing the widening of the arterials (BWAY and 28th St) to 4 tanes to accommodate the increased traffic expected from the new development including the Holiday Drive In property. You need grocery stores and a libray so city residents and mountain people don't have to drive all the way across town to shop. Having the new Safeway will help but it's still too far to drive. A King Soopers near the Holiday Drive In would be great! Sincerely, Bill Vander Minden Phone: 303-544-1223 P.S. I'd love to see a Super WALMART in town whether at Cross Roads or elsewhere. It probably will hurt some small businesses-- just like Vitamin Cottage drove my friends Vitamin and Health Food store (at NE cornar of 30th and Walnut) out of business. But in the long run, global goods and services should be distributed in the most efficient way possible.
