More than one hundred members and

many of whom aze PBC membe~ The an-
nual dmner and meeang of PL,Ai~I-Boulder
County giowed wi[h the warm[h of old fnend-
stups and new acquazntances, as well as heart-
felt cheers for good works accomphshed.
The members present elected a slate of
15 board members for 20~2, t 0 of them con-

Bill DeOreo moved to Boulder m 1974
to attend the timvers~ty of Colorado, where
he received degrees m both crvil and envt-
ronmental engmeenng Afrer servmg bnefly
wi[h [he City of Boulder unhty depattrnent,
he became an engmeenng consultant on wa-
ter-related issues, w~th an emphas~s on de-
mand management and water conservauon
Fe served on the ciry Open Space Boazd from
1985 to 1990 He helped orgamze the Old
North Boulder Neighborhood Assoctauon
and, most recendy, led an unsuccessful aa
tempt co s[op the city Gom replacmg the last
remaimng bit of Olmsted Pazk with a plat-
fo~ c~~s ~o~tt
Steve Pomerance is well known for his
serv~ce on the Boulder Ciry Council, where
he worked on issues such as the ctty's raw
warer management plan, [he Integra[ed Plan-
mng Pro~ect and the Communiry Housmg
Affordabihty Progam Dunng a penod be-
tween council sants, he led the Slow Growth ~
Imaauve to address Boulder's raptd mdus-
tnal and commercial growth He did no[ seek
re-elecnon m 1997, and smce [hen has con-
anued to work on many fron[s, mcludmg
helpmg ro star[ an effort to address statewtde
growth through the imaanve process, result-
mg in Amendmen[ 24 on [he 2000 ballo[.

Ricky Weiser had received one of the an-
nual awazds some years back, but the boazd
felt it was ame to give her further recogu-

Sharon Rosall's eclectic expenence
broadens the scope of the PBC boazd. She
was formerly on the boards of the Chautauqua
Assoc~auon and the Meatal Health Center,
and remazns acuve in Histonc Boulder and
the Hentage Roundtable She cuaendy serves
on the Boulder Counry Parks and Open Space
Board and is ou[gomg cha~r of the aty's Land-
mazks Preservauon Adnsory Boazd
Pat Shanks, a resident of Boulder, ts a
research geochenust wt[h [he U S Geologt-
cal Survey Some of fus current research m-
volves potenUally tox~c elemenu in [he envi-
ronment, uune draznage ~ssues, and harmful
effecu on ecosystems. He also has an acuve
mterest m a broad spectrum of issues related
to land use, transportahon, conservaaon, and
a clean envuonment.
John Spitzer, a Boulder res~dent smce
1975, has a master's degee m arctutecture
from CU He led the successful 1988 cam-
paign to keep the ma~n Lbrary downtown. He
speazheaded the effort thaz defeated the so-
called Seconds Count uuawve on the 2000
c~ty ballo4 w}uch [hrea[ened [o ehauna[e
more than 75 traffic miagauon devices
throughout Boulder He has served as chau
of the city's Envuonmea[al Advisory Boazd
and is cucrenfly cha~r of the Downtown De-
s~gi Adv~sory Boazd
Retiring from the board
F~ve boazd membe~ asked not to be con-
s~dered for a 2002 term. Matt Appelbaum,
who served as chair two yeazs ago, and Jom
Teter, last yeaz's chau, both cited pressures
of thes profesnonal lives and other volun-
teer commitmenu
Beth Pommer's acuve role on the city

hes, made her dende not to conanue
