Dear Pazks and Recrearion Advisory Board,
Hello I'm wnting on behalf of many Boulder crtizens who want to encourage the Parks and Rec Department
to conUnue its commitmem to a pocket park and community garden on Hickory Avenue near Baselme and
Foothills Parkway Our neighborhood needs a gathering place where kids can play or neighbors can picmc
Boulder's beloved community gardening program desperately needs more gazden space
Our ne~ghborhood approached the Parks and Rec Advisory Board almost two yeazs ago to make this request
We collected over 230 signatures and packed the board meeting with over 30 neighbors to show we care We
would like to thank the advisory board for deciduig to support our neighborhood pazk and garden~
Appro~mately 0 6 acres of city properiy was made available for a community garden, with the hope that the
remaining 0 8 acres would be committed m the future to develop a full-fledged neighborhood pocket park and
expand the garden Much has happened since that boazd meeting in July, 2000

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In 2001, we applied for and received a$3000 block gant which we used to plow the Seld and purchase a tool
shed, tools, water hydrants, compost and other garden materials The Parks and Rec Department generously
cleared the site and installed a water system. In August 2001, neighborhood volurneers constructed a
beautiful 1Ox12 foot garden shed We've had one very successful and abundant garden season and look
forward to this next season We expect every single gazden plot to be rented withui the next few weeks!
At the beginning of this project, there was concern among neighbors about traffic, parking and other issues
We aze happy to report that our garden neighbors are very pleased with the garden Considering the
controversies over projects in other parts of Boulder, we are very proud and lucky to haue ttus strong
continued neighborhood support. (Please see the attached neighborhood petition )
OUR REQUEST
We strongly encourage you to make tlus park a prionty. Let's all work together to make ttus happen Our
neighborhood is ready to pitch in with volunteer labor~ We reaUze that a full-fledged pocket park is stdl a
couple of years away, but there are several small things the Parks & Rec Dept. can do now to enhance this
s~te as a neighborhood gathering place Here's what we need~
•$1600 for a moveable gazebo structure to provide a pleasant shady gathering place Volunteers will
gladly construct it~
• Two picnic tables for gardeners and neighborhood visitors to rest and socialize in the shade of the gazebo
•$500 for a community bulletin board Also, constructed by volunteers
• Please make an official permanent commitment to make this pocket park happen Set a target date to
des~gn and construct the park
