Re: Platform Tenms Courts on N.B Recrearion Center Renovahon Plan
Deaz Boazd Members:
As members of the Old North Boulder Neighborhood Association we have a great
interest in the upcoming renovation to the North Boulder recrearion center. In general,
we support the improvements, and look forwazd to having them co~lete. There is one
aspect of the plan, however, which gives us cause for concern. T`hat is the relocation of
the piatform tennis courts out mto the central grassy, or park area that currently provides
,.a.buffer behueen the lighted courts and the homes to the south. We understand that this is
,,,,,,,,. only place on the site which will be able to accommodate any additional facilities
because the rest of the site will be filled with either buildings, courts or parking azeas.
Given this, we request that the platform tenms cour~s be removed totally from the site,
and either relocated elsewhere or lefr in `9imbo" until another home can be found.
Our reasons for t6is request are :
1. the NBRC site will be overly dense with the complet~on of the renovahon, and badly
needs to have a small amount of open space left on it
2. The proposed location for the courts is in an area used by the low income housing
residents for a play area for their children Without it they will have lost a safe and
beaunful play azea, and will end up playing e~ther m t6e parking azeas or streets
3. The courts are hghted and elevated. Placing them m the proposed area will tmpose an
unreasonable burden on the neighbors from light and noise. This is especislly frue
considering the close proximity to the housmg authority apaatments. These are high
dens~ty l~ving and need the open space prov~ded by the green area.
4 Most if not all of the people who come W play platform tennis dnve to the site They
can~ust as easily drive to another site
5. Elimmahng the platform tenrus courts will reduce the pressure on pazlung at the site.

We respectfully request that the boazd give this your most serious consideration, and
direct the staff to eliminate the platform tennis courts from the NBRC plans.
