We aze wnUng to ask for your help and financial support
At our September 25, 2000 Pazks and Recreahon Advisory Boazd Meetmg we felt compelled to
~ deny the Boulder Creek Event's request to place a 100' x 85' skating nnk and skate rental shed on
the lower part of the `Big Green Area' between the dmmg hall and the Chautauqua front enuance
off 9'" and Baseline. The nnk would have been there from the end of November through the end of
January or February. The consensus was that the skatmg rtnk is a good idea, but Chautauqua was
the wrong locaUOn for several reasons, mcluding traffic, parkmg, hghts and noise We were
especially concemed with generator noise and what the operarion would do to the lawn rtself and
the sunny-day use pattems thereon.
Part of our motion for demal, however, mcluded our desire to help find a more suitable site~ither
on other pazks land or in the commercial sector-and to wnte a letter of support and a request for
help to both the BURA Boazd and Macench m hopes of our workmg together to find a good,
accessible and visible site for our commumty to en~oy ice skat~ng through the conung hohday
season and winter months. We feei that m the nght place, such as the south end of Crossroads, the
nnk could agun be a big tut and a nice econoauc draw for surrounding busmesses as it
undoubtedly was when it was downtown last year An altemative site bemg considered is on the
Civic Plaza, north of the Dushanbe Teahouse. Erther locauon would benefit our Canyon comdor
busmesses.
