At our September 25, 2000 Pazks and Recreauon Advisory Boazd Meeung we felt compelled to
deny the Boulder Creek Event's request to place a 100' x 85' skating nnk and skate rental shed on
t^ the lower part of the `Big Green Area' between the dirung hall and the Chautauqua front entrance
~"~ off 9`" and Baseline The rink would have been there from the end of November through the end of
January or Febmary. The consensus was that the skatmg nnk is a good idea, but Chautauqua was
the wrong locauon for several reasons, mcludmg traffic, pazkmg, hghts and noise We were
especially concemed with generator noise and what the operation would do to the lawn itself and
the sunny-day use pattems thereon.
Part of our mot~on for demal, however, mcluded our desue to help find a more suitable site-either
on other pazks land or m the commercial sector-and to wnte a letter of support and a request for
help to both the BURA Boazd and Macench in hopes of our working together to find a good,
accessible and visible site for our commumty to en~oy ice skahng through the commg hohday
season and wmter months. We feel that m the nght place, such as the south end of Crossroads, the
nnk could agazn be a big lut and a mce economic draw for surroundmg busmesses as it
undoubtedly was when it was downtown last yeaz. An altemat~ve site bemg considered is on the
Civic Plaza, north of the Dushanbe Teahouse. Either locauon would benefit our Canyon comdor
businesses.
