Data: 9/6/00 10:13am Subjact: North Houlder Recreation Center changes Georgia Jackson- Please pass this along to the members of the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for their consideration in the September 6, 2000, study session meeting. Thank you, Kathy Tegtmeyer k7t@indra com To the members of the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. I am contacting you to express my interest and concern regarding the proposed changes to the NorCh Boulder Recreation Center pool facility 2 have been a Boulder resident for 16 years and currently own a home and live in North Houlder I am also a member of the Boulder Aquatic Masters swimming group and I swim at the City's pools approximately 3 times a week all year long. I have been involved in competitive swimming since I was 9 years old (30 years~) and I continue to en7oy the health and social benefits of swimming through the City's masters program. My interest in the North Boulder Rec Center pool is strong because this facility is located walking distance from my home. I vastly prefer walking to and from the pool to fighting cross-town traffic (by car or bike) to visit one of the other recreation centers I have several neighbors within a block of my home who also take advantage of our proximity to the North Boulder Recreation Center by walking to and from their lap-swim workouts at the pool Please consider modifying the proposed plan for the new pool to include additional lap swinmiing lanes. Lap swimmers are the lifetime users of pool facilities. As a child 2 participated on competitive swim teaxns and that e~cperience resulted in ongoing en~oyment and interest in lap swimming I intend to continue swimming laps on a regular basis for the rest of my life~ I strongly support use of the city's pools by youth swim teams, masters swimmers and other adult lap swi~ners in addition to learn-to-swim and youth recreation/play programs, and I believe it is the mission of the City-funded recreation centers to provide facilities for all segments of the population The City will be acting irresponsibly if they accept a pool design that eliminates the possibility for future use of the pool by one or more of these groups Please work with the Boulder Aquatic Masters, youth swim teams and other lap swimmers to develop a new pool design that will allow for their future use of the North Boulder Recreation Center. Thank you for your consideration, Rathy Tegtmeyer 3205 15th St , Boulder, CO 80304 ~ .....-
