Subject: Dog Parks - Please forward to Pius by 2/28
Dear PRP.B Members:
I am writing to urge you to support P&R staff's proposal to establish
fenced dog parks at East Boulder Community Park, Tantra Park and the new
Valmont park site.
The dog parks will provide safe, secure opportunities for training and
playing with canine companions
There is a large percentage of dogs currently using Mountain Parks and
Open Space that lack the fundamental training to meet the City's voice and
sight control regulations The result often is unacceptable impacts to the
natural resources and conflicts with other users Dog parks can provide dog
owners with a"proving ground" for their dogs- enclosed, safe environments
where dogs will be exposed to other dogs and people and can become skilled in
off-leash obedience in the face of distractions
In addition to being an excellent training and learning environment for
dogs and their people, a dog park offers space for off-leash play (frisbee,
ball fetching, swimming) and socialization without requiring car trips for
large nwnbers of City residents.
While there is still a need to find locations for dog parks in central
and north BoUlder, establishment of the 3 parks proposed by P&R staff
/++, certainly moves us in the right direction I believe the citizens of Boulder
~4i - whether dog people or not - will embrace this proposal It makes good
sense~
Thank you for your consideration
