Staff reviewed the most recent files on the Bradfield family that were compiled durmg the park ~--
naming process. TYus informanon was summarized mto the followmg proposed plaque text.
The text has not been reviewed by the Bradfield fanuly. If the Board recommends approval it
is expected that staff will review the text with the family
Bradfield Fanuly
Greenleaf Park is the former site of Bradfield's Building Products Center From 1966 to
1984, the Bradfield fanuly operated a lumber yard at this locanon Many of the supplies for
the ongu~al houses, churches, and campus buildings throughout Boulder came from ttus
lumber yard Miles Bradfield, the family's pauiarch, served the Ciry as President of the
Boulder Chamber of Commerce, Duector of Boulder Commumty Hosprtal, and President of
Boulder Crvic Symphony Orchestra The Bradfield family has contmued iYs acnve role m
the Boulder Commumty throughout the years
The size of this cast bronze plaque is proposed to be 14 mches by 12 mches with an estimated
mstalled cost of $2500 The selected location is as shown on Attachment A The plaque will be
on a 12 to 15 mch high boulder m a planter bed across from the play area Tlus location was
chosen because of the proxiuuty to the park walk system and to the play area where the plaque '"A
could provide a tustoncal and educational element
Scott Carpenter Park:
At a meetmg last year, PRAB directed staff to invesugate the possibihty of mstallmg a NASA
artifact m Scott Carpenter Park and placmg a plaque honormg Scott Carpenter on the artifact
Research showed that NA3A does not have any artifacts available for donation Other items
such as concrete sculpture or bronze rephcas could be placed mto the park. However, the
estunates are $3Q000 to $50,000. These items were considered by the Board at a previous
meetmg. Siaff is suggesting a bronze plaque, mounted onto an existmg brick wall as an
alternative to a large sculpture with a plaque placed in the park
Staff has reviewed a draft of the text with the Carpenter family members and will need to have
Mr Scott Carpenter review final language Proposed plaque content is as follows
