4 - Items from the Director~ PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT February 12, 2001 ~ MEMORANDUM To: Members of the Pazks and Recreahon Advisory Boazd From: Chns Dropmski, Director Re: Items from the Duector Skatepark Closure The new Skatepark at Scott Carpenter Park opened November 18, 2000 A Skatepazk Advisory Committee (SPAC) was estabhshed to recommend rules, discuss concerns and recommend solutions to potenhal problems. One of the rules recommended by the SPAC states that the Skatepark may be closed unhl further nohce if graffih is found on the ndmg surface. On January 25 and January 29 graffih appeared m three different azeas of the skatepazk The ~""" skatepazk was closed February 5-8 for graffih removal A Hotline was sent to City Council "'~- nohfying them of the rule and the closure pnor to the grafim removal process. The intent was to remove the graffih immediately, but was delayed due to equipment availabihty and weather The cost of the removal was $1520 Tlus figure includes standard employees Ume, but not their benefits It also does not include the rime spent by three Pazks and Recreation Admmistrators managuig the grafim removal pro~ect.
