Snbject: Pnrchase of George Shanahan property in Marshall
We encourage you to purchase the Shanahan property. This Iand has
agricultural and operations value and perhaps trail expansion possibilities for the
South Boulder Creek Trail.
ff you buy, please keep George and Loma's house intact It along with the
ground is a tangible link to those who have come before. How many flagstone
homes are there? Especially a house which was put together by a master brick
layer, George Shanahan. George did stonework all over Bonlder County during his
years and you can see his work on the C.U. campus among other places. We believe
this stone may 6e from the quarry above Mt Sanitas but are unsure.
George grew np on the Shanahan farm acroas the highway and npon his
retarn from W WIL, he exp~nded the small structure his parents had built to use for
his own family w6ich grew to 5.
After being a long time friend and neighbor of the Shanahan's we would like
to say that the purchase of this property woutd be very important to the farming
community that it still is. We want to keep t6e rural feeling of Marshall and be the
quaint, quiet eIItrance to the City and this purchase ensures that along with the
other purchases in the area. We thank the Open Space Departmeut for keeping this
rural area a wondertul pluce to live and raise a family.

Subject: Pending purchase of the 11 acres of Shanahan property on Marshall Road
for the pnrpose of Open Space
To whom it may concern:
We the residents of Marshall would like to encourage you to purchase the 11
acres of property from the George Shanahsn estate whicL is boarded by Marshall
Road and Highway 93 just south of the Boulder city limita Thia property has great
value as an agricnttaral property, fire protecrion site, wildtife habitat and a gateway
to the City of Boutder.
Along with the purchase of the Rolling Rock property a namber of years ago
aad the development rights to the 160 acre property to the west which is now owned
by Lynn and Sandy Shanahan, this property provides an excellent bnffer for the
city . Also some day it may be possible to build a connecting trail from the South
Bonlder 1~si1 on the east side, nnder the highway at the bridge, to the trailhead on
Highway 93 which teada to ihe Blaactem trail and the Mesa traiL
A vote for the purchase of this property is the right choice for all of you.
With pastureland diminishing, you have a chance to keep one more property open
and prevent negative development of it
Tl~auk you for considering our reques~ T'he residents of the Marshall area.
