KGNU Update: Berlin met with Marty Durlin, director of KGNU, regarding an audio magazine

September 18th for further discussions.
Boulder Art Directors meeting: The September Commission meeting will be held at the home

right to bring people together to discuss the arts in Boulder.

few in attendance. In order to move the process along, Gartenmann suggested hiring John Huyler
to facilitate the meetings and assist with process. Task force member, John Tayer, recommended
the Commission agree on a charge for the update as a starting point. Unanimously approved is
the following motion: For the purposes of the Cultural Master Plan update, discussion of the
scope of the arts in all of its forms will be limited to the City of Boulder. Berlin, Bruck and
Gartenmann will meet with Huyler before the next meeting of the task force.
BAC Presents Video: After completion of the BAC Presents Jennifer Heath video, Heath asked
that the video not be aired on Channel 8. Gartenrnann will check with Heath about making the
video available through the Arts Commission office. Gartenmann will talk with Channel 8 staff

QUARTERLY REPORTS
Guild Theatre: Kevin Brown has been very active in reorganizing the Guild Theatre. Guild
Summerfest 2001 is a collaboration of all resident theatre organizations performing a one act play
festival as a fundraiser for the Guild. The 1941 Murder Mystery fundraiser netted $1500.00 for
the organization. The Guild now has a website with rental information and events
(www.guildtheatre.org). An actor's list and media list have been compiled. After September 1,
the Guild is 90% occupied. The Board is reworking the by-laws for the organization. By the end
of 2001, the Guild finances will be on the positive side.
Colorado Dance Festival: The Colorado Dance Festiva12001 was very successful. The
community feedback has been positive. The HipHop performances sold out. The Break Dance
sessions included participants from 10 to 60 years old. Classes were well attended with many
drop-in attendees. CDF did extensive audience surveys to review for the 2002 Festival.
Boulder Museum of Contemporary Arts: Ken Bloom reported on the changes at BMoCA.
The Museum has a new mission statement and working on a strategic plan. Two priorities have
been identified by the board: solidify operations and infrastructure and improving public
relations. BMoCA does not have an established board policy and Bloom is working to
professionalize the board. The group is learning to fundraise and has elected new officers. The
staff situation has been revised. The staff has been reduced to four full time employees, with an
upgrade in salary and benefits. Bloom is setting up a management team. Judy Hussey will work
on programs at large. The Board has established the Board Guild (Friends of BMoCA) which
will sponsor the annual Exotica Erotica fundraiser. The Board will work towards fundraisers
closer to the Museum's mission. The Museum has received very positive feedback from the Joe
Brainard exhibit.
Collage Children's Museum: Leslie Durgin reported that Collage has been reorganizing staff.
The Museum received $60,000 in gifts. Collaborations include work with the Colorado
Shakespeare Festival, the Asian Festival and Collage is creating an exchange with the Denver
Zoo. The Boulder Fire Department will be working with Collage on a Macaroni and Cheese
cookoff. A youth core is being created to help with the design of the new facility. The Board is
looking at ways to increase exhibits for older children. Durgin is working with the Science
Discovery Program at the University to create a partnership at the new facility. The Bears on
Parade public art fundraiser has begun. Applause has purchased all of the small bears. The large
bears will be sold, artists will create art pieces with them and then auction them off. Proceeds
will go to youth related organizations in Boulder. The soonest Durgin expects to be in the new
facility at 9th and Canyon is 2004.
