Election of Officers: Don Berlin was elected Chair of the Commission. Erich Hill will serve as Vice-Chair. Board appointments: Erich Hill will remain as the BAC representative to BMoCA. Patti Bruck will continue to serve as liaison to the Dairy Board. Ann Moss will represent the BAC on public art projects. Don Berlin and Virginia Zukowski will assist on special projects. Donna Gartenmann will represent the arts on the Boulder Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Community Dance Forum update: The Commission received the summary from the Community Dance Forum. The Arts and Humanities Assembly of Boulder will initiate the next step of the process, which will be organizing dance focus groups. No time line has been established for the final report. Approval of final reports for Imagination Makers, Boulder Chorale, Caroline Douglas and Maria Neary were unanimously approved. BAC Presents 2003: Don Chapman, producer of Sweet Lunacy, a rockumentary of Boulder music, inquired about a similaz project for upcoming Arts Commission videos. The topic would be Boulder's history of bluegrass and folk music. The Commission was receptive to the idea. Mini-Grant Applications: Berlin suggested the Commission review the mini-grant application. Proposed changes include frequency of applying and application feedback. The Commission will discuss the applications at the June planning meeting. MINI-GRANTS Danelle Helander requested funds for Pura Vida! Helander and her dancers will perform lecture/demonstrations and host a final dance concert in October at the Dairy Center for the Arts. Moss moved to awazd Helander $400.00. Bruck seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. Jennifer Berry: Berlin informed Berry that her grant would not be considered because hand written applications are not accepted. Berlin encouraged Berry to reapply for the July mini-grant. Kat Feldman asked for funds to submit of slide of her artwork to Book Art Press, along with an artist's statement to promote the creation of nature inspired fine works of azt. The grant failed for lack of a motion. Boulder Municipal Channel 8 is seeking funds for "Please, Don't Eat the Crayons", a half-hour magazine style television program for children ages three to eight, focusing on art, music, dance and literature. Hill moved to award Channel 8 $400.00 with Zukowski seconding. The motion passed unanimously. Richard Varnes submitted a grant for "Icons of My Tribe: A Year at the Mall", a photo exhibit at Sydney's Cappuccino and Art Baz. The exhibit is selected works from a new photo essay looking at how our seculaz culture now celebrates sacred seasons and rituals. Moss made a motion to award Varnes $400.00. Hill seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Boulder Asian Pacific Alliance requested funds for the 8`h Annual Boulder Asian Festival. The event will beheld August 23-24 on the Pearl Street Mall. The Festival is a two day event showcasing the performing, culinary and visual arts of Asian cultures. Bruck moved to award the Alliance $400.00 with Moss seconding. The vote was unanimous. Boulder Youth Symphony is seeking funds for a May concert at Grusin Music Hall. The Youth Symphony will present four symphonic concerts. Participants include 60-70 young musicians. Hill made a motion to approve the request. Zukowski seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Maria Colon asked for assistance to produce "Unconscious Knowledge", a super 8mm color silent film. The film will explore the subconscious communication in its pure form. The completed film will be screened at a local group show. The request failed for lack of a motion. Robert Sher-Machherndl submitted a proposal for "Strangelands" presented by Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet. The performance will continue Sher-Machherndl's exploration of contemporary pointe work. Sher-Machherndl received a major grant for the same project. The request Failed for lack of a motion. Dana Walker, Poetas y Artistas Network: No representation from the organization. No action taken. Rob McWilliams: No representation. No action taken. Michael Johan asked for funds for a poetry reading with musical accompaniment and art exhibit at the Nomad Theatre. All poetry is original and artists will be invited to exhibit artwork. Hill moved to award Johan $400.00. Moss seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Ford Hofferboth requested support for an exhibit of original comic book art. The grant application was incomplete. Hofferboth was asked to resubmit a complete grant in July. Rebekah West submitted a grant to support an upcoming photo exhibit at the Boulder Public Library Gallery. Funds are requested for archival prints and framing. Bruck moved to fund the project for $400.00. Hill seconded. The motion carried unanimously. Boulder History Museum: No representation. No action taken. Boulder Acting Group asked for funds to present three new one act plays at the Guild Theatre. The Acting Group is soliciting scripts from playwrights throughout the country. Three plays will be selected from the submissions. Moss made a motion to awazd the Boulder Acting Group $400.00. Bruck seconded with the motion passing unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45.
