Minutes - Arts Commission - 11/19/2003 Approved 1/21/04 Boulder Arts Commission November 19, 2003 Boulder Public Library Members Present: Patti Bruck Ench Htll Gmger Zukowski Members Absent: Ann Moss Michael Smilh The mcehng was called to ordei at 5 40 p.m. Also Present: Liz Abbott Donua Gartenmann Tma Walker Ken Bloom Karen Gerrity Ahson Moore Mary Wohl Haan Mmutes of the October 15, 2003 meetmg were approved as received Final Reports: Budget reports for Jack Collom and Stacy Steers were approved as received. Susan Honstem, representahve of the Human Resources deparlment, Lipdated the Commission on the search for a new Library/Arts director. Interviews will be conducted December 8 and 9. The Ltbrary and Arls Commission will have the oppartumty to panc~ipate on a panel on December 9 Gartenmaim will ask Michael Smith if he is available to panc~ipate 2004 Theater Assistance Grants: Gartenmaun queried the Commission to see if theie was sufficient support from the board to agam offer Theater Asststance grants wrth Yhe hne item funds The Commission agreed to offei the grants for 2004 but will discuss the line item during budget deliberahons The grants will be revtewed in February 2004 Community Conference Center: Gartenmann is workmg with Downtown Management and the Convention and Visrtois Bureau on the feasibilrty of a conference center m Boulder. The group would likc to mcludc representation from the BAC Gartenmann will ask Ann Moss if she would be the representative Arts Paper Mission Statement: The discussion was Cabled until all Commission members are preseut Boulder Arts Sl~owcase: Several members of the arts commLmrty have begun work on the 2004 Arts Showcase to be held at BMoCA dunng the Creek Festival Last year, the BAC supported the event fiuancially. The Commission approved $1500 00 for the Arls Showcase. BMoCA Theater: The Museum rs beginning a use review for the theater BMoCA does not have $3500 for the necessary fees. The Commission unanimously approved up to $3500 for the review process. Boulder County Arts Alliance: Alison Moore presented a proposal for the 2004 Artist Workshops. The BAC and BCAA have collaborated on the project which has increased m scope Attendance has grown and the number of workshops offered has increased. Moore rs also seeking corporate sponsorship for the workshops. Zukowskr moved to approve $3200 00 for the collaboratron Bruck seconded the motron whrch passed unammously Dance Bridge: Mary Wohl Haan presented an update on the Dance Brrdge. The program has recerved local pubhcrty The Dance rs for Everybody program m September was very successful The Dance Bridge now has its own section on the Arts Resource websrte. A choreographers forum wrll be held November 20 BMoCA: Ken Bloom reported on a very strong vrsual art season as well as performance season Two of the most successful programs were funded by the BAC. The recent fundrarsers have been successful. Bloom is working on necessary budding rmprovements. The Museum wrll be working wrth a very lean budget in 2004. The Dairy: Karen Gerrrty updated the Commrssron on Darry events The Nuts and Bolts fundrarser was a success The Darry has recerved a matchrng grant to work on updates to the burldmg and the burldout of the lobby.
