Minutes - Arts Commission - 10/17/2003Approved 11/19/03 Boulder Arts Commission October 17, 2003 Boulder Public Library Members Patti Bruck Ench Hill Ann Moss Michael Smith Gmger Zukowski Also Present Donna Gartenmann Tma Walker Mary Wohl Haan The meeting was called to order at 5:40 p m, Minutes of the September 17, 2003 meeting were approved as received. Final reports for Colorado Music Festival, Sound Circle and Blue Moon Dance Company were approved as received. 2004 Arts Publication: Ina Russell spoke to the Commission about ideas for an arts penodical m 2004 Russell would like to pursue a semi-annual publicahon with the following goals. • A mouthpiece that promotes the arts as a revenue generator • Pomts of view of why the arts are strong . Anc~les Yhat get behmd Yhe arts to make them grow • Reviews of local music • A directory of local arts orgamzations • Inclusion of local government and busmesses Russell received quotes from the Daily Camera to publish a 24 page, TV Guide s~ze paper that would be mserted in the Wednesday Camera and distributed to 20,000 readers. She will find out the cost of mserting the piece m the Friday Magazine. Smith asked what the purpose of the paper is and what would drive the audience. He suggested the Commission create a mission statement for the project at the November meetmg and resume discussion at that time Whatever the decision, Smith would like to see some kmd of campaign to mform the pubhc of the pro~ect m advance. The discussion will contmue at the November meetmg Techncial Assistance Grant: Gartenmann distnbuted a draft of the Technical Assistance Grant application Commissionars will respond with any changes Mini-Grants Lindsay Ashmun: Gartenmann had contacted Ashmun requesting a letter of intent from the Dairy confirming the proposed performance in November. Ashmun was not m attendance. No action was taken. Mary Wohl Haan: Haan submitted a proposal for "Beyond Borders", a dance performance to beheld at the Dairy Center m November. The project is an evening of modern dance works choreographed by Haan. Moss moved to award Haan $600 00 Smith seconded the motion which passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
