Arts for Colorado: The Commission unanimously approved becoming a member of the Arts for Colorado, a state arts advocacy orgamzation Approval of Final Reports: Final reports far Arts Nova (Ma~or grant) and Marcus Lyons (Arts m Education grant) were approved as recerved. Cultural Master Plan update: Gartenmann mtroduced Bill Capsahs, a member of the Cultural Master Plan steering commrttee and consultant Capsahs asked Commissioners for mput on the Cultural Master Plan. Gartenmann would like to submit the plan to Council for approval befare the current City Council leaves office. The Plamm~g Board may not need to approve the plan, but Gartenmann would submit rt to the Planning Department as an mformation item The followmg are key questions and issues addressed by the Board and staff 0 Who is the plan bemg wntten for~ 0 Who oversees the Plan? 0 A good Plan gives strategies and prtonties 0 Why, What, How and Who 0 Set a hmelme and shck to it 0 Broad generalized plan beyond stated goals. 0 Keep the goals simple and achievable 0 Commrtted participants, BAC, BCAA, Steering Committee, artists, arts organizations 0 The Cultural Plan must refer to arts issues m the Boulder Comprehensive plan 0 Partnerships for success In addition to the Boards Forum held m 2002, queshons were asked of the busmess commumty m the Chamber of Commerce newsletter and a public open house will be held before the draft is submitted to Crty Council. The Commission will review the draft at the September meeting. Economic Vitality Action Group: Gartenmann informed Commissioners of City Manager Frank Bruno's EVAG committee. The group has been meeting for six months to look at economic development m Boulder. The arts are a component of the draft to be submitted to Crty Council m September September Planning meeting agenda items: The Commission will discuss and review the following: 0 Technical Assrstance grants and Arts in Education grants 0 Loan policy 0 Cultural Master Plan draft 0 The Arts Paper Quarterly Financial Reports Boulder Dance Bridge: Mary Wohl Haan presented information distributed to the dance community. Accomplishments to date: - The Help Desk has been established m the BAC office - Letter to the Community has been sent out to 160 dance mdivrduals and organizations whrch has produce many new registrations with the Arts Resource. - Attended national Dance USA workshops m Denver - Conducted 10 one-on-one sessions with members of the dance community and fielded over 60 phone calls requesting assistance or information. - Collaborating with the Boulder County Arts Alliance on dance facilities directory and maps - Updating promotion and marketing kits for the dance and arts community at large. Dairy Center for the Arts: Karen Gerrity reported that the Dairy has reduced its debt by $270,000 since Gemty became the executive director. Outreach programs include E- Town, mobile field trips m collaboration with the school distnct and Excellence m the Arts for brain inured artists groups. Spaces left vacant by Naropa have been rented by Lemon Sponge Cake, Boulder Academy, the Boulder Philharmonic and George Peters/Melanre Walker. Any interested artists/organrzations simply put their name on a list and are selected on a first come, first served basis. Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art: Gartenmann will ask Ken Bloom to attend the September meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25
