Minutes - Arts Commission - 03/31/2003Approved 4/17/03 BOULDER ARTS COMMISSION MARCH 31, 2003 (MEETING RESCHEDULED DUE TO 3/19 BLIZZARD) BOULDER PUBLIC LIBRARY Members Present: Also Present: Don Berlin Donna Gartenmann Patti Bruck Miriam Paisner Erich Hill Ann Moss Ginger Zukowski The meeting was called to order at 5:40 p.m. Minutes of the February 19, 2003 meeting were approved as received. Arts Director Retirement: Gartenmann reminded everyone that the farewell reception for Marcelee Gralapp would be held at the Canyon Gallery, Thursday, Apri13 from 4-7. Approval of Final Reports: Final reports for Shara Brun and the Colorado Mahlerfest were approved as received. Boulder Art Sampler: Open Studios and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art have spearheaded a collaboration of local artists and organizations called the Boulder Art Showcase. The event will be held at the Museum during the Boulder Creek Festival over the Memorial Day weekend. The intent of the Showcase is to educate the community on the various arts organizations in Boulder. The program will consist of dance, theater, film, visual arts, and music, all performing simultaneously in the Museum. The Boulder Creek Festival organizers haue agreed to include the Showcase in all advertising and trail maps. The Festival usually draws over 100,000 attendees. The Convention and Visitors Bureau has allocated $1500 for the event. The Arts Commission approved $3000.00 for the Arts Showcase. 2004/2005 Budget: Gartenmann distributad draft budgets for the next two-year budget cycie. All City departments are required to cut budgets by 20°/a. Out of the three scenarios, Hill made a motion to approved Scenario 3, which included cuts from all line items and seemed to be the most equitable. Moss seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. Dance Plan: The Boulder County Arts Alliance and the BAC haue completed 13 months of community forums looking at the future of dance in Boulder. The final report suggested the BAC City funds far Dance be used for the Dance Bridge, an umbrella organization available to the dance community. The Dance Bridge would become a central resource including marketing, audiance development, branding, eta The staff would be located in the Arts Commission office. The Commission asked that the following be addressed at the Quarterly Financial meeting in May: Strategic plan, self- evaluation tool, prioritized scope of work and job description. Gartenmann suggested talking to Mary Wohl Hahn about the position. Hahn was a staff member with the Boulder Dance Alliance, the model the Dance Bridge is based on. Moss made a motion to approve the Dance Bridgo proposal with the items mentioned earlier addressed at the May meeting. Hill seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Arts in Education Grants and Technical Assistance Grants: Please sea attached applicants and recommendations. Erich Hill presented Don Berlin with a plaque for his service on the Boulder Arts Commission. Don will be missed.
