HomeMy WebLinkAbout1216 - IN SUPPORT of the extension of the Worthy Cause Tax1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 RESOLUTION 1216 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF EXTENSION OF THE WORTHY CAUSE TAX THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOULDER, COLORADO, HEREBY FINDS AND RECITES: A. The Worthy Cause Tax is a voter approved .05% countywide sales tax, in place since 2000; and B. Worthy Cause will expire December 31, 2018; and C. The Worthy Cause Tax supports capital funding for the purposes of funding facilities and equipment for nonprofit human services agencies and housing authorities within Boulder County providing health, transitional and affordable rental housing and other human services including childcare, early childhood education, basic needs such as food and clothing and services for the elderly and people with disabilities; and D. The Worthy Cause Tax has supported the capital expansions and improvements of numerous nonprofit human services agencies in the City of Boulder providing homeless sheltering, affordable housing, food and basic needs, early childhood learning, transportation, aging services and more; and E. There continues to be a critical need for capital facilities and equipment for nonprofit human services agencies and housing authorities with which Boulder County contracts for the provision of low-cost health, mental health, transitional and permanently affordable housing, and other human services, including but not limited to childcare and early childhood education, basic needs, and services for the elderly and people with disabilities; and F. Considering uncertain funding and cutbacks in funding for such services and programs at the state and federal levels, this critical need will continue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOULDER, COLORADO: That because the Worthy Cause Tax provides critical support for basic needs and vulnerable residents in the community and creates a more livable, equitable, and safe community for all residents, the City of Boulder supports the extension of Resolution No. 2008-88, expiring December 31, 2018.
