RESOLUTION 1216
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF EXTENSION OF
THE WORTHY CAUSE TAX
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOULDER, COLORADO, HEREBY FINDS
AND RECITES:
A. The Worthy Cause Tax is a voter approved .05% countywide sales tax, in place
since 2000; and
B. Worthy Cause will expire December 31, 2018; and
C. The Worthy Cause Tax supports capital funding for the purposes of funding facilities
and equipment for nonprofit human services agencies and housing authorities within
Boulder County providing health, transitional and affordable rental housing and other
human services including childcare, early childhood education, basic needs such as food
and clothing and services for the elderly and people with disabilities; and
D. The Worthy Cause Tax has supported the capital expansions and improvements of
numerous nonprofit human services agencies in the City of Boulder providing homeless
sheltering, affordable housing, food and basic needs, early childhood learning,
transportation, aging services and more; and
E. There continues to be a critical need for capital facilities and equipment for nonprofit
human services agencies and housing authorities with which Boulder County contracts for
the provision of low-cost health, mental health, transitional and permanently affordable
housing, and other human services, including but not limited to childcare and early
childhood education, basic needs, and services for the elderly and people with disabilities;
and
F. Considering uncertain funding and cutbacks in funding for such services and programs
at the state and federal levels, this critical need will continue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BOULDER, COLORADO:
That because the Worthy Cause Tax provides critical support for basic needs and vulnerable
residents in the community and creates a more livable, equitable, and safe community for all
residents, the City of Boulder supports the extension of Resolution No. 2008-88, expiring
December 31, 2018.
Adopted this 19th day of September 2017.
