A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SUPPORT OF C~NSUS 2000
WHEREAS, The Boulder CiYy Council finds that the Census is viCal to our commuuity in
that it determines the apportionment of seats in the United States House of Representatives and
the Colorado State Legislature, and is the basis foc the allocation of billions of dollars of I'ederal,
State, and County funds for transportation, social and other pmgtams; and
WHEIt~AS, the Census is also used to help deYermine where Yo loeate schools, day eare
centers, senior citizen centers, hospitals, and other facilities and is used to make decisions
concerning business growth and jobs; and
WHEREAS, Census information is eonfidential and Federal law prohibits any public or
private agency from gaining aceess to confidential Census data; and
WHERLAS, the City of Boulder is conlmitted to a full and accurate Census count and is
placing special emphasis on enumerating members of population groups haditionally
undercounted; aud
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder is committed to partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau,
cities, organizations, and agencies in preparing for Census 2000 through address list updates,
census map corrections and jurisdictional bouudary updates; aud
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder supports the formation of a county-wide Census 2000
Complete Count Committee composed of key stakeholders throughont Boulder County,
including elected offieials, the Boulder Human Relations Commission (HRC), planners,
community-based oxganizations, business groups, educational institutions, minority and ethnic
groups, religious institutions, and members of the media;
NOW THEREFOR~, BE IT R~SOLV~D BY TH~ CITY COLJNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BOULDER, COLORADO, the Census 2000 is a priority for the City of Boulder, and supports
Che HRC's efforCs to eucourage the community to place an emphasis wiYhin our jurisdiction of
partnering together with the U.S. Census Bureau in achieving an accurate and complefe cotart in
Census 2000.
