RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO AN
AMENDMENT TO THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION CONCERNING
MARRIAGE
WHEREAS, the proposed Amendment to the Colorado Constitution would deny
marriage to same-sex couples; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder has been, and remains, firmly committed to the
protection of civil rights for all people as outlined in the City of Boulder Human Rights
Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder recognizes the many contributions that its Gay,
Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender residents have provided that have enhanced the lives
of all in the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder provides a voluntary program of registration of
domestic partners. The domestic partnership registry is a means by which unmarried,
committed couples who share a life and home together may document their relationship;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder opposes any government interference of any two
unrelated individuals who choose to marry and shaze fully and equally in the rights,
responsibilities and commitment of civil marriage; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder opposes Amendments to the Colorado
Constitution that would prohibit marriage between any two committed, consenting, and
unrelated adults.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CTTY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOUDER, COLORADO, THAT the Boulder City Council does hereby
declare its opposition of, and urges a NO vote for, Amendment 43 on the November 7,
2006 Boulder County general election ballot.
