HomeMy WebLinkAbout1005 - SUPPORTING Boulder County 2006 Referred Measure 1A for Trails and TransitRESOLUTION NO. 1005 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF BOUDER COUNTY 2006 REFERRED MEASURE lA FOR TRAILS AND TRANSIT WHEREAS, ensuring the mobility of residents, students, workers and visitors to Boulder County is an important responsibility of local governments; and WHEREAS, growth in the Boulder County area is projected to steadily con6nue over the next twenty yeazs, increasing the demands on our uansporta[ion system; and WHEREAS, providing transportation options to our growing senior population and people with disabilities is becoming increasingly important; and WHEREAS, transportation choices such as riding the bus or biking or walking provide benefitsto individual residents such as saving money, reducing stress and reducing the prevalence of obesity; and WHEREAS, providing transportation choices, including convenient and reliable transit service and key regional trail connections, has community benefits, including improving economic vitality, environmental health and quality of life in our region while reducing traffic congestion; and WHEREAS, County Ballot Issue lA will provide funding to preserve the integrity of existing regional transit service as well as providing additional important services between those communities; and WHEREAS, County Ballot Issue lA also includes funding for important regional trail projects which will link communities and create more robust ttail systems throughout the county; and WHEREAS, County Ballot Issue lA contains a thoughtfully crafted list of projects and services with a careful fiscal analysis incorporating cost-effectiveness in all elements; and WHEREAS, County Ballot Issue lA focuses on key principles of preserving the integrity of existing services, linking communities with additional intercity services, adding service to azeas of emerging growth, and raising awareness of the services; and WHEREAS, County Ballot Issue lA provides funding for hybrid electric and alternative fuel buses, which will help conserve oil and reduce air pollution; and WHEREAS, the passage of County Ballot Issue lA will directly benefit the residents of our commumty; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOUDER, COLORADO, THAT the Boulder City Council does hereby declare its full support of, and urges a YES vote, for Issue lA on the November 7, 2006 Boulder County general election ballot.
