HomeMy WebLinkAbout971 - SUPPORTING the Boulder County "Drop In The Bucket" Campaign to redirect 2003 TABOR Tax RefundsBoulder City Council RESOLUTION NO. 971 A RESOLUTIQN SUPPORTING THE BO~LJLDER COUNTY `DROP IN THE BUCKET' CAMPAIGN TO REDIRECT.2003 TABOR TAX REFUNDS TO " DESIGNATED NON•PROFIT.ORGANIZATIONS WHEREAS, Boulder County must refund approxirnately $2:5 million in 2Q03 property tasc revenue due to TABOR requirements, and WHEREAS, the triedian refund to Boulder County property owners will be $11 and 92 percent af refunds wi11 be less than $30, and WHEREAS, every dollar matters for local non-profits because ~many are experiencing _. unprecedented demand for services or faeing budget cuts due to decreased funding, and WHER~AS, these pressures aze felt by specific Boulde,r County programs like Community Food Share, which has increased charitable food distribution by 30 percenf in two yeazs; the Mental Heaith Center o£ Boulder County, whieh recently losf $4 million in funding despite steady demand; Access Counseling, which has experienced a 30- percent inerease in demand for its low-cast mental health counseling services; and the Safe SHelter of St. Vrain Valley, which had to refuse sHelter to 161 individuals last year because the facility was too smal"1, and WI~REAS, the County is offering the opportunity for taspayers to donate their refvnds to designated coinmunity non-profits, and , WHEREAS, the list of eight non-profit categories includes non-profit services benefiting residents througho.utthe Boulder County communiYy NOW, THEREFOR~, ~E IT RESpLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL'OF THE CITY OF BQUDER, COLQRADO THAT: 1. The Boulder City Co~pcil supports tfie county's "Drop in the BuckeP' effort to redirect 2003 TABOR property talc refunds to designated npn-profits. ' 2. The Bouldez.City Council encourages personal, commercial and business.property owners within our city limits to participate in the program by checking off a non-pro£tt category of their choice and donating their refiands. .
