A R~SOLUTION PROMOTING GOOllWILL AND MUTUAL RESPECT AND
CONDEMNING RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION IN BOULDER
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder views the diversity of our community as a strength; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder has an historic commitment to resolvmg issues of
racism; and
WHEREAS, the Crty of Boulder ~s strongly opposed to acts of racism and d~scrmvnation
in Boulder, and
WHEREAS, the City Council values all residents and visitors to Boulder, promotes
tolerance and respect withm the community; and
WHEREAS, the C~ty Counc~l recogmzes that acts fostered for the purpose of generating
hate for others pose a threat to econom~c and community development, and
WH~REAS, recently, racist fliers targeting the Latmo commumty have been distributed
m Boulder and other Colorado communrt~es; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, as the elected leadership of Boulder, realizes its
commitment and responsibil~ty to oppose acts and practices of discnmmation and provide
leadership m speech and in pol~cy to combat such acts and practices.
NOW, THER~I'ORE, BE IT RESOLV~D BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOULDER:
That while freedoms of speech and association are strongly respected m
Boulder, acts and pracnces intended to foster hate and d~scrimmation aze hereby
condemned by City Council as contrary to the values this commumty espouses
regarding its diversity.
2. That the City Council hereby reaffirms Boulder's commitment to human and c~v~l
nghts as outlined in the Crty of Boulder Human Rights Ordmance and its strong
opposition to any acts of racism and discriminat~on m Boulder
3. That the C~ty Council herein ~ssues a pohcy statement condemnmg acts of racism
and discriminat~on directed toward any res~dent or v~sitor because of age,
ancestry, creed, color, gender variance, mental or physical disability, national
ongin, race, rehgion, sex, or sexual or~entation.
4 That the City Council also issues policy statement promoting a City that supports
a fair, free, safe and friendly environment encouraging goodwill and mutual
respect for all
