A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF BOULDER
COUNTY BEING AUTHORIZED TO RETAIN AND
EXPEND REVENUES COLLECTED THIS YEAR AND
IN ALL FUTURE YEARS
WHEREAS, numerous other counries around the state, and all of the ma~or
mumcipahtres withm Boulder County, have asked for and received permission from theu
voters to reduce the impacts of strictly adhermg to TABOR formulas because the services
they supply to residents would otherwise suffer; and
WHEREAS, Boulder County estrmates that its assumprion of a 3 5% growth m
the CPI may result m a collechon of up to $4 7 nullion over the TABOR hnut m 2004,
which would need to be reduced from the county budget, not~ceably impachng sernces m
all azeas of county government, and
WHEREAS, the County is strongly committed to support the azea's nonprofit
agencies that provide safety net services to low-mcome, at-risk county residents who use
health chmcs, special transportation, homeless programs, domestic violence services,
mental health counsehng, and emergency assistance to help them get back on theu feet
and regam mdependence and digmty, and
WHEREAS, County Issue 1C reserves $500,000 of the retamed revenues m the
base for annual nonprofit human services operations, and
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder shares a commrtment to support local human
service agencies and recogruzes the nsk to the survival of the agencies if support from
Boulder County is lessened
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CTTY OF BOULDER, COLORADO, that it supports Boulder County bemg authonzed to
retain and expend revenues collected m 2004 and all future years, as outlmed m County
Issue 1C, and encourages legislarive and voter support of this item and the benefits rt
provides
