A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF BOULDER COUNTY
INTI'IATIVE lA, AN INCREASE IN THE SALES AND USE
TAX FOR OPEN SPACE PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Boulder and Boulder County shaze a commitment to preservmg
open space lands, and
WHEREAS, we hve m a region where growth pressures contmue, mcreasmg the need for
preservmg our remammg open lands, and
WHEREAS, the economic health of Boulder and Boulder County is directly lmked to
how well we protect our environment; and
WHEREAS, the County's abilrty to purchase addrtional open space wlule it is still
avazlable will be severely limited under current funding, and
WHEREAS, additional funding is needed to adequately mazntam and improve the land
currently managed by Boulder County, mcludmg weed management, wetland and ripazian
enhancements, trails and facihty construction, wildhfe habitat improvements and agricultural
management, as well as natural and cultural mterpretation programs
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TI' RESOLVED BY THE CTTY COUNCIL OF THE CTI'Y
OF BOULDER, COLORADO, that it supports Boulder County Imhahve lA, the imposihon of
an addrtional county-wide sales and use tas for 20 years for purposes of open space acquisirion,
tra~ls, land and facihhes improvements, management and mazntenance, and urges legislative and
voter support for passage of th~s taJC and the conhnued benefits open space provides
