2 A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE CITY OF BOULDER'S
COMMITMENT TO HONOR AND UPHOLD THE PARIS CLIMATE
AGREEMENT GOALS
4 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOULDER, COLORADO FINDS AND RECITES:

A. 195 countries, including the United States,vowed to address climate change in
6 agreements reached in Paris in December 2015 (the"Paris Agreement").
7 B. President Donald Trump's announcement seeking to withdraw the United States of
America(the"United States")from the Paris Agreement undermines the global effort to confront one of
8 the greatest challenges facing our community and communities across the one planet we all share.
9 C. There is scientific consensus regarding changes to our climate caused by human activity,
10 especially the combustion of fossil fuels that create greenhouse gases.
11 D. Climate change has been widely recognized by government,business and academic
leaders as a worldwide threat to our economy, safety,public health,and quality of life.
12 E. The City of Boulder desires to protect and enhance quality of life for all those who live,
13 work, learn and play in our community, as well as for our future generations.
14 F. The City of Boulder has demonstrated a legacy of leadership to reduce the threat of
climate change and will continue to prioritize climate and energy efforts in our community and beyond.

G. The City of Boulder is committed to its adopted goal of 80 percent greenhouse gas
16 emissions reduction by 2050, as compared to a 2005 baseline.
17 H. The City of Boulder's emissions reduction goal is equivalent to what the United States
had originally committed to under the Paris Agreement.

I. The City of Boulder is joined in acting on climate change by a global coalition of cities,
19 state and national governments and community and private sector leaders who recognize the importance
20 and potential of these actions to protect and enhance the well-being of current and future generations.

NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
22 BOULDER,THAT:
24 Section 1.The City of Boulder re-affirms its commitment to reducing climate pollution in
alignment with the city's climate commitment goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by
25 2050, as compared to a 2005 baseline.
_ Section 2. The City of Boulder re-affirms its commitment to achieving 100 percent clean,
renewable electricity by 2030, as an important step in achieving our overall climate goals.
Section 3. The City of Boulder supports the principles of the Paris Agreement and the
4 participation of the United States as a party to the Paris Agreement.

Section 4. The City of Boulder encourages and supports cities and other public and private sector
6 partners throughout the world to advance action in accordance with the goals outlined in the Paris
Agreement.

8 Section 5. The City of Boulder encourages all federal representatives to act to reverse the
9 disappointing executive actions that jeopardize the world's ability to combat climate change.
