Item 7B - Update MemoDATE: April 6, 2016 TO: Landmarks Board FROM: James Hewat, Marcy Cameron SUBJECT: Update Memo Landmarks Board Appointments Welcome Ronnie Pelusio and Eric Budd to the Landmarks Board! Civic Area Glen Huntington Band Shell/Atrium Building A community open house will be held Monday, April 4 from 5-8 p.m. in the Riverside Building, 1724 Broadway. Representatives will be available to discuss the many ongoing Civic Area projects such as Market Hall Feasibility, Floodplain Design: Opportunities & Constraints, Civic Area Parking, Boulder Community Health Broadway Campus Redevelopment, Arapahoe Underpass, Canyon Complete Street, and Creek Path Improvements. The City Council will be discussing the Civic Area Master Plan on April 5. The packet will be available at https://bouldercolorado.gov/city-council/city-council-resources. Landmarks Board Lecture Series The board hosted a screening of Visual Acoustics on March 16th at the Boulder Library Canyon Theater. Approximately 25 people attended. The next event is the lecture “Ode to a Persian Garden” on April 13 at the library. See following page for flier. University of Colorado Conference Center, Grandview Site Historic Preservation staff has been involved in continuing discussions about the possibility of a university conference center locating at Grandview Avenue and Broadway Road. Analysis of integrating the Quaker Meeting House into the redevelopment and other properties that may be affected by such a redevelopment. Certified Local Government Grant – Historic Resource Survey Plan The city has selected Tatatanka Historic Associates Inc. to assist in the preparation of a Historic resource Survey Plan. Update at meeting. Certified Local Government Grant – NAPC Conference The city has received a CLG grant for two board members and a staff member to attend the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions Forum in Mobile, AL from July 27-31, 2016. Session information will be posted April 1st, 2016 on the NAPC website: https://www.regonline.com/builder/site/default.aspx?EventID=1772691 University Hill Commercial District – National Register Nomination On Dec. 8, the City Council reviewed the University Hill Reinvestment Strategy Update (click for memo). As part of the strategy, the city is pursing National Register designation for the commercial district. In October, History Colorado determined that the University Hill Commercial District is eligible for National Register designation. The city will be issuing an RFP to hire a consultant to prepare and submit the nomination in 2016. Update at meeting. Comprehensive Planning and Sustainability Calendar See attached.
