Intercambio Narrative for HRC Community Event Support Narrative for HRC Community Event Support WHO IS ORGANIZING THE EVENT Intercambio is the organizing body of this community-wide event that will partner with numerous organizations, instructors and musicians to create the most diverse day of music and dancing our community has ever seen. DESCRIPTION OF EVENT Dancing brings people together, and Boulder is home to many amazing, diverse instructors and musicians. Our vision is to have a full day of dance participation from 11am to 7pm where people can come in and out and participate as much or as little as they want. We will have prizes for those who participate the entire day. Intercambio has been hosting dance exercise classes at our office for over 5 years to promote physical and mental health. Our participants come from many countries, and they love when we bring in live music or guest teachers. In addition to the dancing, several performers will briefly discuss the significance and history of their dancing and music. We will also facilitate brief discussions during the breaks to dialogue about our own community and how to further integrate Boulder. Some of the musicians/instructors we will invite to participate will include: -Logo Ligi (African drumming and dance instruction) -Bateria Alegria and the Boulder Samba School (Brazilian drumming and dance instruction) -En Fuego Productions (Dance instruction on salsa, samba, bachata and more) -Intercambio dance (high-energy dance exercise to music from around the world) -Square Dancing with Elena Klaver and her band -Barrio E Puerto Rican traditional dances -Breakdancing -Swing Dancing -Bhangra dance Indian -And many more! We already have close contact with many of the instructors listed here. We will strive to get as wide an array as possible of instructors. Each instructor will have between 15 minutes to an hour, so the event will have a fast- GOALS The goals of the event are to bring together diverse members of the community, learn about different heritages and backgrounds through music and dance, and improve physical and mental health of our community members.
