3 Goals for City Council (2011):
Work to increase community and civic engagement:
Partnership with National League of Cities Project: Municipal Action for
Immigrant Integration(MAII).The goal is promote civic engagement and
citizenship among the Boulder immigrant community. Specifically, MAII will
provide immigrant residents with the opportunity to fully understand how local
government functions and how, as community members, they can play an
important role in Boulder. Another goal of the effort is to broaden the pool of
future applicants to boards, commissions and council.
Partner with other municipalities in Colorado to host a Boulderevent as part of
the 2011National Association of Human Rights Workers (NAHRW)Annual
Training Conference to be held in Aurora, COin the Fall of 2011. The
conference is known for delivering the latest, most useful and easily implemented
strategiesfor the improvement of human relationsand civil rights.
Support initiatives to leverage low-income residents out of poverty
:
Boulder County Bridges Out of Povertyprogram of the Circles Campaign, a
nationwide program dedicated to ending poverty. Boulder County has
implemented the CirclesCampaign working to find solutions that decrease
dependency on public benefits and helpmiddle and upper income families
understand what they can do to help.
The United Way Individual Development Account (IDA) Program is an asset-
development program for low-to-moderate income individuals. The objective of
the program is to assist people with limited means in achieving financial
independence and becoming financially self-sufficient.
Promote Boulder as an Inclusive and Diverse Community
:
Review 2010 Census data for Boulder in its applicability to promote and
encourage education, respect and appreciation for communities in Boulder.
