Memo.CirclesCampaign Memorandum Human Relations Commission To: Carmen Atilano, Karen Rahn CC: Kathryn Coleman From: 2/12/2013 Date: Circles Campaign to End Poverty Re: The City of Boulder’s Division of Housing and Human Services (HHS) is a partner in the Boulder County Circles Campaign to End Poverty(BCCC). Through staff from its Children’s Youth and Families Division (CYF),HHS participates in the design and implementation of the BCCC and provides direct support and resources for the needs of the cityof Boulder segment of the campaign. The Circles Campaign is a high impact strategy designed to bring about long-term change, the Circles model focuses on doing "with" not "for"; developing social capital; and the paradigm shift that human services professionals and agencies aren't able to end poverty without significant leadership and participation from the larger community. CYF requests that the Human Relations Commission (HRC) support this effort by helping to spread the wordabout Circlesand by providing financial support.Specifically: Tell you friends, family members and colleagues about Circles and its need for volunteers.Volunteers are employed at all levels of the campaignand in many different capacities. The more people in Boulder who know about Circles the easier it will be to recruit volunteers. Provide partial funding for an informational insert with this August’s city utility bill. Thismarketing tool reaches approximately 28,000 households plus many more through the utilities payment website. Boulder Countyis providing the copy design andhas offered to pay 50% of the production cost. We ask that the HRC consider paying the other half. Costs specified on page 2. Through ‘Boulder Community Computers’ (BOCO), a local agency working to reduce the digital divide, Circles has access to computers which can be given to the low-income families participating in Circles program. BOCO charges a small fee to ‘refurbish’ donated hardware and we ask HRC support for this cost. Costs specified on page 2. BOCO also offers computer training for people not yet comfortable with computers and/or the internet. Assistance with the small fee charged for this service is requested. Costs specified on page 2. th Thank you for considering this request. I look forward to sharing more information at your June 20 meeting. 1 February 12, 2013 Circle Campaign Support Request Costs Requested ItemDescriptionCostfrom HRC Print, cut an stuff 28,000, 1/3 City of Boulderpage, Utility Bill Insertdoubled sided, color inserts$1,600 $800 12 PCs and/or laptops @ $40 Refurbish Computerseach$480$480 Technology Training4 classes (topics as needed)$400$400 TOTAL$2,480 $1,680 2
