Minutes - 12/13/2012 CITY OF BOULDER BOARD OF ZONING ADJUSTMENT ACTION MINUTES December 13, 2012 5 p.m. 1777 Broadway, Council Chambers Board Members Present: Michael llirsch, Elizabeth Hondorf, Thomas Krueger, Ellen McCready, Laura Coates Board Members Absent: City Attorney Representing Board: Erin Poe, City Attorney Staff Members Present: Brian Holmes, Robbie Wyler, Susan Mcissner 1. CALL TO ORDER: T. Krueger called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. 2. BOARD HEARING: Docket No.: 2012-08 Address: 3030 17`h Street Applicant: William Wilkinson As a part of a request to convert and expand an existing attached carport into an attached garage, the applicant is requesting a variance to the total for both side yards setback. The resulting total side yard setback will be 10'-4 %2" where 15'-0" is required, and where the existing non-standard total setback is approximately 12'-4 `/2". Section of the Land Use Regulations to be modified: Section 9-7-1, BRC 1981. Staff Presentation B. Holmes presented the item to the board. Staff is in support of the application as requested. Applicant Presentation Mr. and Mrs. Wilkinson, the applicants, presented to the board. Public Hearing No one from the public addressed the board. Board Discussion T. Krueger thought that the application was straightforward and noted that the proposed 5 ft setback would be sufficient to allow access in the case of an emergency. Motion On a motion by. B. llondorfsecondecl by 1V1. Hirsch, the Board of'Zonine Ad*ustmcnt approved 5-0 the application (Docket 2012-06) as submitted. 3. GENERAL DISCUSSION: A. Approval of Minutes On a motion by E. tiondorf. seconded by M. Hirsch. the Board of Zoning; Adjustment gpproved (4-0) (L. Coates abstained clue to absence) the October 11. 2012 minutes, as amended. B. Matters from the Board None C. Matters from the City Attorney None D. Matters from Staff A. B. Holmes introduced Robbie Wyler, the new Assistant Zoning Administrator, to the board. B. 2013 Letter to City Council The board did not have any items that they wish to address in a letter to City Council, however, T. Krueger requested that proposed code changes or code adoption items be presented to BOZA for review and input prior to going to Planning Board for final recommendation. C. The 2013 BOZA Retreat will take place in the spring when the board has a new member. 1a. New board member applications will be available in January. Candidates must live within the city limits. The board discussed the possibility of having an alternate member and will add this topic to the retreat agenda. 4.
